Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez got injured during a 3-0 win against West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday and was ultimately substituted in the 71st minute.
Martinez had just missed four months of football due to a foot issue, that was his fourth appearance since returning from the injury.
The Argentinian tried to play after sustaining the injury but he soon started struggling to walk as his injured knee couldn’t bear the weight. He then walked off the ground with the assistance of the team medical’s staff.
Man Utd boss Ten Hag confirmed after the match that the injury didn’t look good, declaring it a “personal disaster” for the 26-year-old who has already missed a lot of matches due to constant battle with injuries.
Man Utd confirmed in a statement that the Argentinian suffered an injury on his knee and will be out for at least eight weeks.
"Lisandro Martinez has sustained an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his knee and is expected to be out of action for at least eight weeks," the statement read.
"The Argentine defender left the field in the 71st minute of our 3-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
"We all wish Licha a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch later in the season."
Martinez took to his social media accounts after it was confirmed that he would be out for two weeks, where he thanked the fans and his teammates for consistently supporting him.
"I want to give a heartfelt thanks for the great support I've received and to reassure you that I'll soon be back out there, and we'll fight together. Always united,” he posted.
Remember, Man Utd have already crashed out of the UEFA Champions League and Carabao Cup, they are only alive in the FA Cup and the Premier League.
Martinez is considered an important player for Ten Hag and the Dutchman will surely miss the presence of one of his most important troops.
